London Festival of Architecture 2010

Between the 19th June and 4th July the London Festival of Architecture is taking place across the Capital. If you are in London and interested in Architecture there are loads of events to check out. Have a look at the LFA2010 website for the event listings.

Yesterday was International Day and I attended an interesting talk on Sustainable Cities by Christer Larsson, the Director of City Planning for Malmo in Sweden. These talks are being held in the funky Price & Myers designed pavillion in Park Crescent:

Swedish Project using BREEAM

My Swedish colleague Jerker made me aware that the redevelopment of Malmo's Western Harbour is going to be certified using BREEAM Communities. Apparently this is the first development in the Nordics to do. It is interesting to see how the UK's BRE Environmental Assessment Method is being adapted and adopted for use in other countries.

Back from Holiday

Not posted for a couple of weeks as it was hectic at work leading up to a week's holiday to the great city of Tokyo. I love the place, great food, great service, different culture, mentally busy, urban sprawl like you have never seen and of course lots to do.

When travelling I like to take snaps of the architecture so here's a quick snapshot of the cool Prada building by Herzog and de Meuron in Aoyama:

Time to increase your software skills?

The ongoing economic crisis has hit people hard and you may be reading this whilst in the unfortunate position of being 'in-between' jobs . I remember when I was laid off from the architectural practice I worked for in the recession of the late eighties, early nineties. I primarily got another job because I had spent time learning CAD.
